It was going to be another grey, dull unremarkable day,
So when a text message from my friend Ninja showed up, I bolted out of my room and ran. I scrambled around my room, looking for matching socks, and tried to get ready, finding an assortment of things in a heap of mess.
The text mentioned we were going to a small circus. A friend had gotten us in and we could not pass up the opportunity for the world.
We grabbed all of our friends (Robin, Ruby, Tom), jumped into Ninja’s car- I remember being squished on the side as we were trying to cram in as many people we knew was humanly possible.
When we showed up, we were late.
We snuck in quietly, pensively, trying not to be noticed.
But then, there the magic was- it was loud, it was engaging, and the whole place breathed life into me.
Acrobatics, knife-throwers, contortions, fire breathers-
It was rustic, the building was run-down, it was charming, and it was a place where we ran amok indulging in every spectacular thing that came our way. Robin introduced me to white wine, and Tom had to finish a drink I started hating, American Beer.
From one trivial hangout, I knew that the world I lived in was still interesting. There was a lot of life, excitement, fascination in the world I live in if only I said “yes” to every opportunity that came my way. I thought about all the times I was never open to new things, never challenged myself, and lived my life in a way that was too safe. I’ve missed out on a lot.
Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end,
The circus was over, the night was over.
We ran out screaming into the night. Adrenaline pumping in our veins, comrade in our group. I never felt as connected to other people as I did then, I never felt as alive as I did then. But truth to be told, I lived in an interesting world.
